SEPNWG was founded in 1998 on the initiative of pediatric nephrologists of Serbia and Macedonia.
The first meeting of SEPNWG was held in 2001 in Istanbul with the participation of the eminent experts from Europe, as well as about 100 pediatric nephrologists from the region of Southeastern Europe. Since then, within a nice group of pediatric nephrologists of the countries from Southeastern Europe, numbers of mutual scientific connections and friendships have been created.

The activity of SEPNWG is supported by the European Society of Pediatric Nephrology (ESPN) and the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA).

In 2000, pediatric nephrologists in Serbia founded the Working group for pediatric nephrology which currently has 47 members: 35 of them are specialists in pediatric nephrology and the others are pediatricians with a special interest in pediatric nephrology.
